Six Alabama Players Named AP All-Americans

No. 4 Alabama heads to the playoffs with more individual honors.

The Associated Press announced its 2023 All-America team Monday, and Alabama had six players on the postseason list, including a nation-leading three first-team selections.

To wit: cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry and Terrion Arnold along with edge rusher Dallas Turner made the AP first team. Meanwhile right tackle JC Latham and true freshman safety Caleb Downers got second-team honors. All-time NCAA scoring leader Will Reichard made third team.

The Associated Press is one of five outlets that determine consensus All-American status, along with the American Football Coaches Association, Football Writers Association of America, Sporting News and Walter Camp. If three of the above organizations select a player to their first team, then he gets consensus honors. If a player is named by all five, he is considered a unanimous selection.

Because no player was recognized as a first-team All-American by the Walter Camp Football Foundation, Alabama will not have a unanimous All-American for the first time since 2019.

Alabama will begin practicing later this week for its Jan. 1 Rose Bowl date with Michigan in the semifinals of the final four-team Playoff before the field increases to 12 teams for the 2024 season.
