Alabama’s Avery Johnson Discusses His Growth as a Head Coach
Since arriving at the University of Alabama, former NBA head coach Avery Johnson had a chip on his shoulder to rebuild the Alabama Crimson Tide basketball program.
In his three seasons at Alabama, Johnson has a record of 57-46 and making it to his first NCAA tournament and the Crimson Tide's first appearance since 2012. The Crimson Tide defeated Virginia Tech to get their first victory in the tournament since 2006.
Although the five game losing streak to end the season was something he wanted to forget about, Johnson rallied his team back in the SEC Tournament and the NCAA Tournament first round.
With point guard Collin Sexton going to the NBA Draft potentially in the first round, first Alabama player to get drafted in the first round since Gerald Wallace back in 2001, and a player like Tevin Mack coming this season, it's safe to say that the future is bright for Johnson at Alabama. But how would he describe his growth as a coach?
Coach Johnson joined The Game with Ryan Fowler to discuss his growth as a head coach on a college level, his energy level on and off the court, what Collin Sexton means to the program, Donta Hall's improvement, and his upcoming summer basketball camp.
