Payne, an Alabama native, chose the Tide over several power fiver programs. Payne was a top-40 recruit in 2015 per On3Sports.

Payne racked up 102 tackles and three sacks over his three years in Tuscaloosa, earning freshman All-American honors in 2015 and first team All-SEC in 2017.

Payne's most famous moment at Alabama came during Alabama's semi-final matchup versus Clemson, where he caught a touchdown pass, helping Alabama rout the Tigers 24-6.

The 6-foot-2 lineman forwent his senior season to enter the NFL draft, getting selected by the then Washington Redskins with the No. 13 overall pick in the draft.

During Payne's five years in D.C., he's racked up nearly 300 tackles and 26 sacks, earning himself a 4-year, $90 million deal.
