Jalen Hurts Surprises Tuscaloosa Students with Virtual Reading

Alabama football players that have graduated to the NFL have a deep history of charity work and helping out the cities that they grew up in and now making their living in. From Tua Tagovailoa creating a foundation to Jedrick Wills giving money to a family in need, alumni of the Crimson Tide are paving the way as generous members of their communities.

This can be seen in the recent acts of kindness by former Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Now with the Philadelphia Eagles, with a starting position potentially in the near future, Hurts dropped in for a special surprise for students at Southview Elementary School in Tuscaloosa.

March 2nd is traditionally “Read Across America” Day around the country, and many schools celebrate by encouraging their students to dive into a book.

Hurts, a graduate of Channelview High School in a suburb of Houston, connected virtually to the Tuscaloosa school to read to over 600 students.

Via Twitter, several teachers and faculty expressed their gratitude to the NFL quarterback.

On the gridiron, Hurts recently made headlines when the Philadelphia Eagles traded starting quarterback Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts. With no quarterback seeming to be heading back to Philly, many NFL pundits are predicting Hurts to take over as the starter. While he is officially recognized as an Oklahoma alumnus, Hurts still completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Communications before he transferred to Oklahoma.

In his rookie season in the NFL, Hurts finished with 1,061 passing yards, six touchdown passes, and 354 rushing yards. He also found the endzone three times while rushing.
