Local race organizers are preparing for the 7th Annual Nucor-Holy 5k (3.2 miles). The race will take place September 7th at Holt High School. The race benefits the Holt High School Athletic Department.

To me, it's another sign that the summer season is ending as we head into cooler months and road races around town are popping up on the calendar.

I ran in this official Tuscaloosa Track Club race last year and really enjoyed it. Some people take their running real serious and chart and map out the race course.  Nah, not me.  I showed up and just ran.  Well, I didn't plan on this massive MOUNTAIN at the end of the course.  Okay, it was a hill. But it was the entire final leg of the course.  It hit me and my running buddies hard!  It has become my obsession for the past year as I joke about preparing for 'the hill.'  Ha!

Then, I wonder if PJ will wear socks?  Yah, last year a guy who worked at the station and was trying to get back into running, entered this race. Well, he thought his feet would stay cooler without socks, besides having really old shoes on. When we approached 'the hill' at the end of the race, he had major blister issues to deal with. I still joke with him about that.

Amanda from Nucor and her staff do a fantastic job with this run!  There are prizes for the top finishers.  Plus, lots of door prizes! I scored a Mellow Mushroom pizza and t-shirt last year.  Sure, an awesome prize.  So much so my friends were jealous!

Come join us at this year's race!
