The National Weather Service has confirmed that severe storms killed one person and injured another in Marengo County late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.

A spokesperson for the NWS in Birmingham said the organization released a local alert after conferring with the Marengo County Emergency Management Agency, who first reported the tragedy.

According to the NWS, the casualties occurred at a manufactured home south of Demopolis, near the intersection of Highway 43 and County Road 54.

The identity of the person killed has not yet been released.

The spokesperson also said the NWS is also working to find out whether a tornado formed in Shelby County, and if any damage occurred there.
