Wilbur Jackson will be honored alongside John Mitchell at Saturday's A-Day game. The pair broke the color barrier of Alabama football over 50 years ago as the first two African American athletes in program history.
Mitchell will be honored at the 2022 A-Day football game along with Wilbur Jackson as the first two African American football players in Crimson Tide program history. Mitchell won two SEC Championships as a player for the Tide and won a national championship as an assistant coach at Alabama as well. He currently serves as Pittsburgh Steelers assistant head coach.
In an announcement by the College Football Hall of Fame Wednesday, it was announced that two former Alabama players have been put on the 2022 ballot. Crimson Tide player-turned-coach Sylvester Croom and legendary running back Shaun Alexander represent ‘Bama.
