Alabama's first defensive player was drafted in the second round, the New York Giants selected Xavier McKinney with the 36th pick overall, the fourth pick in the second round. McKinney is the first safety off the board and the fifth Alabama player selected. He helps a pass defense that finished 28th in the league last season.

Todd McShay and Mel Kiper Jr. routinely spend the spring arguing with one another over draft prospects. This spring is no different despite holding the draft online and most pro-days being cancelled. McShay considers Alabama's Xavier McKinney to be the top safety in this upcoming draft class. McKinney took some time out of training this week to ask Kiper Jr. why he doesn't agree with McShay's assessment.

Alabama sent 10 players to Indianapolis to participate in the NFL Combine. The players submitted themselves to a medical assessment, body measurements and interviews with the media. The wide receivers have already participated in a skills showcase while the defenders will participate throughout the weekend.
