The Alabama Department of Public Health held a press conference on Friday, March 13th, offering updates on COVID-19 cases in the state.

The first confirmed case of the novel corona virus has been confirmed in the State of Alabama. Governor Kay Ivey issued a press release earlier with the details of the case identification.

"The person who is infected is a resident of Montgomery County," stated ADPH Officer Scott Harris.

The patient has since followed quarantine measures.

"We have had a plan now in place for several weeks for how we would respond," Harris added. "We still think it is very prudent for [residents] to avoid large groups of people."
