They played round one of the Iron Bowl of Basketball Wednesday night at Tuscaloosa's Coleman Coliseum. Some needed an arc to get to the game. Others needed to make shots behind the arc to win the game.

That is, after the lights come out. There was an eerie power outage after No. 6/8 AU opened the game with a Johni Broome 3-pointer. Talk about shooting the lights out.

Alabama won the game 79-75 behind the 22 points of Mark Sears, who nailed to late free throws to ice it He was joined in double digits by Rylan Griffen with 17, while Latrell Wrightsell and Grant Nelson each had 14.

The rebounding war was won by Bama 47-40, and  Alabama's top board man was  Nelson with 11 while Wrightsell grabbed nine boards.

Bama closed the first half with a 9-0 run and led 44-30 at intermission.
