One of the nation's top scorers is set to announce his commitment Friday afternoon.

Labaron Philon, a 6-foot-4 point guard, plays for Baker High School in Mobile, Alabama. Philon is the highest ranked player in the 2024 recruiting cycle from the state of Alabama.

Philon has narrowed his list of schools including Arkansas, Kansas, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Alabama, and Auburn. The race seems to have narrowed down to an in-state battle between the Tigers and the Crimson Tide, with Auburn likely to land his commitment.

Alabama received a visit from Philon in June, but the Tigers got him in most recently for an official visit on Sept. 24.

Philon's commitment will be a major addition for either Alabama or Auburn as he is averaging nearly 40 points per game against 7A competition. Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl has been unable to land the state's top-ranked players since his arrival in 2014, missing out on Trendon Watford in 2019, JD Davison in 2021, and Cade Phillips in 2022.

Alabama, however, is in good shape with several 2024 recruits. Four-star power forwards Aiden Sherell and Donnie Freeman have recently visited Tuscaloosa, with Freeman attending Alabama's 66-63 win over Mississippi State.

Nate Oats and staff still have their eyes set on 2024 in-state talent as four-star small forward Chase McCarty holds an offer from the Tide. McCarty attends Westminster Christian Academy (Huntsville, Ala.) and also holds offers from Gonzaga, Houston, and Tennessee.
