10 of the Best New Restaurants to Open in Tuscaloosa in 2016
It's been an incredible year in Tuscaloosa--the Tide has rolled back into the College Football Playoff for the third year in a row, and the City of Champions is still experiencing unprecedented growth. It seemed as if a new business opened every other day in 2016, and we're psyched to see so many new restaurants now calling the Druid City home. Here are our picks for the 10 best new restaurants to open in Tuscaloosa in 2016.
10. River
River offers a fine dining experience with incredible views of the Black Warrior River. Located off the Jack Warner Parkway, a dinner at River is a special night out you'll remember for a long time.
Tuscaloosa welcomed O'Henry's Coffees to University Boulevard downtown this fall. They're serving up delicious lattes, espresso, cappuccinos, and so much more-- not to mention one of the best cups of coffee you'll find in T-Town.
Craving something spicy? Hit up Fuzzy's Taco Shop on University Boulevard. They offer classic Mexican fare with a fun and flavorful twist in a fun atmosphere--and you just can't beat their downtown location!
The new Starbucks on Bryant Drive opened this fall and is the only Starbucks on a college campus with a drive-thru--how cool is that? Their location makes this Starbucks a must-visit for Bama fans; you can grab a cup of coffee and literally walk through into the SupeStore!
2016 was a big year for burgers in Tuscaloosa, and foodies rejoiced when Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers opened its doors this summer. Freddy's is serving up delicious burgers, Chicago style hot dogs, fries, and decadent custard off of 15th Street in Tuscaloosa.
5. Cook Out
Another burger joint opened off 15th Street this year--much to the delight of college kids and Tuscaloosa residents alike. Cook Out's affordable menu makes it a popular student hangout. Everything is so good--and their double drive-thru makes for fast, friendly service.
Tuscaloosa's own Heritage House Coffee and Tea expanded exponentially this year--they're soon to open a new location near Hotel Indigo, and they opened a new Heritage House inside the Gateway Technology Center in Alberta. Heritage House serves delicious coffee, lattes, and more--and their cakes, cookies, and breakfast are the best in town!
Mooyah Burgers, Fries, & Shakes opened on The Strip late this summer. They're serving up delicious burgers with a unique twist, and you can customize yours and add just about anything you want! They have sweet potato fries and regular fries, too--and their chili cheese fries are THE BEST you'll find in Tuscaloosa.
2. Miss Dot's
Miss Dot's opened its University Boulevard location in early 2016, but this little chicken joint really made a name for itself when county star Luke Bryan stopped by for lunch and an impromptu jam session. Miss Dot's fried chicken is legendary, and their scratch-made sides are sure to please even the pickiest of eaters. Pro Tip: try the chocolate pie for dessert!
Holler & Dash Biscuit House came to The Strip in Tuscaloosa this summer, and they've quickly made a name for themselves. They have THE BEST brunch in town, and their creative and insanely delicious menu have helped them become one of Tuscaloosa's favorite new restaurants. They're serving up biscuits with a uniquely Southern twist as well as classic sides like tater tots and grits--but all prepared in a way that takes your dining experience to the next level.
