Region play has begun across the state, so this is when teams can start making their pushes to make the playoffs. It's a long season, but doing well now means an easier road to a state championship.

In West Alabama, there are plenty of rivalries and match-ups that happen each week, but there are three this week that stand out, not just in the region, but across the state as well.

Hillcrest @ Bessemer City

The Patriots of Hillcrest have cracked the Alabama Sports Writers Association (ASWA) Top 10 this week, and look to continue their solid play against the Bessemer City Tigers in a 6A Region 4 battle of supremacy.

Hillcrest has been led by 4-star junior RB Brian Robinson, who has been offered scholarships from Georgia, Auburn, South Carolina, and most recently the Alabama Crimson Tide. Robinson absolutely went off two weeks ago against Clay-Chalkville, the top ranked team in 6A, going off for 447 yards on the ground. Look for Robinson to continue getting the bulk of the work.

Bessemer City is coming into this game undefeated, and are still looking to get respect from the ASWA, as they still haven't made it into the Top 10, even coming off of shut out victories over Bryant and Brookwood.

West Blocton @ Bibb County

One of the best teams in 4A is the West Blocton Tigers, and they'll be hoping to increase their 3-0 record when they take on the Bibb County Choctaws.

The Tigers are currently ranked #4 in 4A, and the Choctaws are coming into this game at 2-2, but are 2-0 in region play. The winner of this game looks to be the leader in Region 4 as the season gets closer and closer to the midway point.

Maplesville @ Linden

Many people often forget about the 1A classification, but one of the two Top 2 match-ups in the state this week features the Red Devils of Maplesville and the Linden Patriots.

Maplesville comes in as the top ranked team in 1A and Linden as the #2 team in the state of Alabama. This is a huge battle of the undefeated's in Region 4, and the winner will be in the driver's seat of the region.

Both teams have shown dominance throughout the season so far, and Maplesville is looking to keep a strong hold on their state championship from last season, but the Tigers will definitely not make it easy on them.
