Welcome back to our weekly edition of Throwback Thursday, a look back and countdown of the 10 most important games of the Nick Saban era at the University of Alabama. We continue on this week with our 7th ranked game, the 2008 meeting between the hedges.

The game will forever be known as “The Blackout.”

Georgia made it known that they would be pulling out their infamous black jerseys while instructing the entire fan base to dress in black as the game would be played under the night sky. The Bulldogs started the season at the top of the rankings, but began to slip-this was their chance find that top spot once again.

Alabama was a team on the rise, riding the success of the early season thumping of the Clemson Tigers. However, as the season played out Clemson wasn’t the team everyone thought they were and Alabama’s schedule to that point had been relatively weak. This would be the first real test.

If this was their first real test, Alabama was like a high school student acing the SATs on the first attempt. From the moment the game first kicked off Alabama dominated the Bulldogs, putting the foot on the gas pedal and never letting up. The game started with talk of Matthew Stafford and Knowshon Moreno, but ended with questions of could this bunch in Crimson led by John Parker Wilson and Glen Coffee really take the Tide back to the top?

While the season did not end in a trophy, it was a big step on the Crimson Tide’s climb back to the top which is why this game comes in at #7. Relive “The Blackout” below.
