The University of Alabama baseball team will begin its fall workouts on Wednesday, Sept. 25, and the Crimson Tide will have team scrimmage on Friday night.

The Tide will have full team practices on Wednesday and Thursday, beginning at 2:30 p.m., before playing an eight-inning intrasquad on Friday night. First pitch on Friday night is scheduled for approximately 6 p.m., at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The first week of fall practice wraps up with a 10:30 a.m., practice on Saturday.

Fans are invited to visit “The Joe” to get an early look at the 2014 Crimson Tide baseball team, as all fall practices and scrimmages are open to the public.  All weekday practices will begin at 2:30 p.m., and the intrasquad schedule will be announced on a weekly basis. Please return to RollTide.com each week for the upcoming week’s schedule throughout the fall. The final day of fall practice will be Friday, Nov. 8, with the final team scrimmage.

With the new seating area in right field, fans are encouraged to come out to Sewell-Thomas Stadium and watch practices and scrimmages from the new plaza seating area beyond the right field fence. For Friday night scrimmages under the lights and for Saturday afternoon games, it’s a perfect place to watch the Bama baseball team work out before attending Crimson Tide football games.

The Tide returns 21 letterwinners from last season’s NCAA Regional team, including freshmen All-Americans Mikey White and Ray Castillo and gold glove second baseman Kyle Overstreet. Bama returns five position starters; outfielders Georgie Salem and Ben Moore, first baseman Austen Smith, and middle infielders White and Overstreet.

The Tide also returns 10 pitchers including starters Justin Kamplain, Spencer Turnbull and Mike Oczypok and relievers Castillo, Taylor Guilbeau, Tucker Hawley, Jay Shaw, Jon Keller, Jake Hubbard and Mitch Greer.

In addition to the 21 returning lettermen, Alabama adds another good recruiting class to the mix, which includes 10 freshmen and three transfers. Of the 13-man incoming class, right-handed pitchers Nick Eicholtz and Geoffrey Bramblett and infielder Trevor Sprowl were 2013 MLB Draft picks.

Mitch Gaspard returns for his fifth season as the head coach of the Alabama baseball program. In four seasons at the Capstone, Gaspard had guided the Tide to a 133-109 record, while leading the Tide to NCAA Regional appearances in 2010, 2011 and 2013. He also guided the Tide to a Super Regional finish in 2010.
