Tuesday, the Alabama Crimson Tide demolished the UAB Blazers 12-2 in a midweek matchup of in-state foes on the diamond.

The Blazers got the best of Alabama in both games last season, but it was the Tide that earned bragging rights with a mercy-rule victory in the first matchup this year.

UAB opened the scoring early with a run in the first before the Tide plated the next nine runs of the game. The Blazers were able to gain a run back off Alabama in the eighth, but it was not enough, as three runs in the bottom half of the inning secured an early finish for Coach Brad Bohannon's bunch.

The sixth-year head coach of Alabama baseball expressed displeasure in how his Crimson Tide opened the game, but mentioned the bats finally caught fire halfway through the night.

Alabama improves to (18-4, 1-2) on the season with the win and turns its attention to a weekend series against the red-hot Kentucky Wildcats in Tuscaloosa.

Bohannon is no stranger to the Bluegrass State, coaching as an assistant in Lexington from 2004 to 2015 for the Cats.

The Alabama head coach and his Crimson Tide opened conference play with a series loss to Florida in Gainesville last weekend, dropping the first two games in the Sunshine State before salvaging the series finale.

Alabama looks to reach the 20-win mark at home this weekend, where No. 22 Kentucky (19-2, 3-0) awaits.

The Wildcats are on a 15-game win streak heading into the weekend, winning 19 of their last 20 games.

Kentucky opened conference play with a home sweep of Mississippi State last weekend before demolishing Eastern Kentucky in midweek action on Tuesday.

A series victory over Kentucky would bring the Tide back to .500 in conference play, while a sweep puts Alabama on the positive side of the standings.

The meeting marks the first time the two SEC squads have faced off since the 2021 season in Lexington. The Wildcats took the series against the Tide, which coach Bohannon and his team will look to avenge this time around in Tuscaloosa.

First pitch is set for 6 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. for the final two games of the series on Saturday and Sunday.
