Alabama starter Geoffrey Bramblett was selected as one of 60 players named to USA Baseball’s 2016 Golden Spikes Award midseason watch list, the organization announced on Wednesday afternoon. It is the first time Bramblett has appeared on the list across his three-year career.

Bramblett worked his way into the Friday night starter role this season and has excelled since taking the lead, providing the Tide with a chance to win each time out. Alabama owns a 6-3 record in his starts, and Bramblett sports a 3-2 overall record across those nine outings while maintaining a lowly 2.09 ERA (13 ER/56.0 IP) that ranks fifth in the SEC. He has also notched 53 strikeouts compared to only 16 walks and has issued two or fewer free passes in all but three starts.

In three seasons at Alabama, Bramblett has compiled a 16-7 record with a 3.21 ERA (69 ER/193.1 IP). The Hoover, Ala., native has struck out 171 compared to only 60 walks and has kept batters at bay, limiting opposing hitters to a lowly .228 average.

The Golden Spikes Award midseason watch list features 60 of the nation’s top amateur players from the high school and college ranks. The Golden Spikes Award Advisory Board will continue to maintain a rolling list of athletes, allowing players to play themselves into consideration for the award before announcing the semifinalists on June 1.

On Wednesday, June 1, USA Baseball will announce the semifinalists for the 2016 Golden Spikes Award. The list of semifinalists will be sent to a voting body consisting of past USA Baseball National Team coaches and press officers, current USA Baseball staff and the 38 previous winners of the award, representing a group of more than 200 voters.

The 2016 Golden Spikes Award winner will be named on Thursday, June 30, at a presentation in Los Angeles, with ESPN serving as the programming sponsor.
