Junior shortstop Mikey White was named to USA Baseball’s 50-player preseason Golden Spikes Award Watch List, the organization announced Tuesday afternoon.The honors are White’s third of the 2015 preseason along with being named a preseason second team All-American by D1Baseball.com and a third team All-American by Perfect Game USA.

Entering his third season with Alabama baseball, White looks to be a leader for the 2015 team. He finished last season with a batting average of .300 (71-237), including nine doubles, two triples and seven home runs. He added 33 RBI to the Tide total and contributed a team-leading 50 runs through 61 starts. In the postseason, White was named to the NCAA Tallahassee All-Regional team thanks to his one homer and team-high six runs scored.

Across his two years at the Capstone, White is batting .293 (137-467) with 20 doubles, three triples and nine home runs. He has collected a total of 63 RBI and 84 runs scored, while maintaining a .963 fielding percentage across 124 starts at short. White has earned numerous awards in his first two seasons, twice claiming Tallahassee Regional All-Tournament honors (2013, 2014), while also being named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American and All-SEC second team in 2013.

Each year, USA baseball’s preseason watch list features 50 of the nation’s top amateur players and is a rolling list until May 22 when the organization announces its semifinalists. The list is made up of players from 17 different conferences with the SEC placing the most student-athletes of any conference with 12 total. The 2015 Golden Spikes Award winner will be announced on Tuesday, June 23, at a presentation in Los Angeles, Calif.

White and the rest of the Alabama Crimson Tide will begin regular-season play this Friday, Feb. 13, as the team hosts the University of Maryland Eastern Shore for a three-game set. First pitch of Friday’s contest will be at 6:35 p.m. CT, with Saturday and Sunday scheduled to start at 2:05 p.m. and 1:05 p.m., respectively.
