Alabama Basketball Dominates In 2024 Home Opener
Tip-off in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The Crimson Tide play their home opener against the UNC-Ashville Bulldogs. The Crimson Tide came out swinging to start the game, up nine points in the first four minutes of the first half while holding the Bulldogs to zero.
This Alabama team came to play; almost halfway through the first half shooting at 61% 11-18 so far with #2 Aden Holloway having seven points before the first timeout, shooting a perfect 3-3 so far into the game.
True freshman #22 Aiden Sherrell made his first appearance tonight, had two offensive rebounds, and scored off of a foul in his first two minutes in the game.
UNC-Asheville struggled early in this game letting Alabama get a 13-point lead with 6 team fouls at the 9:14 mark in the first half. Toyaz Soloman, starting forward for the Bulldogs leads the charge in scoring in this first half, shooting 4-6 for a total of nine points.
With two minutes left in the first half, the Alabama Crimson Tide held a demanding lead of 24 points over UNC-Ashville with a score of 48-28.
Alabama is leading UNC-Ashville 50-29 at the half.
Alabama's leading scorer at the half was starting guard #1 Mark Sears, shooting 3-3 FG, 1-1 from the three-point line, and 3-4 at the free throw line for a total of 10 points in 14:07 of playtime for the University of Alabama graduate. The team is 18-29 FG, 3-9 from the three-point, and 6-12 from the free throw line. The Crimson Tide beat the Bulldogs at the glass coming away with a total of 27 rebounds.
Toyaz Soloman is the leading scorer for the UNC-Ashville Bulldogs
shooting 4-7 FG, 1-3 from the three-point line, and 2-5 from the free throw line with 15:41 of playtime.
Not a very eventful second half as the Crimson Tide continued to dominate the basket; almost a 40-point lead with a score of 81-47 with 10:24 left in the game.
Nate Oats makes history as Alabama's Head coach with 117 wins in his first five seasons at the University of Alabama, which is the most wins in the span of five years for the SEC school.
Tonight's 110-54 home-opening win for the Crimson Tide sets the pace for Friday night's game against Arkansas State. Tip-off for Friday's contest starts at 7:00 p.m. CT. It will also be televised on the SEC Network Plus.
