Alabama native Trevor Peek is still fighting at the UFC Fight Night event on Feb. 25, but his opponent has changed.

Peek (7-0, 1 NC) was originally booked opposite Alex Reyes in what was to be the latter's return from a layoff of more than five years. Reyes's lone UFC fight was a loss up a weight class in September of 2017. Instead, Peek will fight Erick Gonzalez. Despite the late change, the bout remains scheduled in the lightweight (155 pounds) division.

Gonzalez (14-7 MMA, 0-2 UFC) was also going to compete in a lightweight bout against Darrius Flowers at the event. Flowers is out, and Peek is in. Gonzalez has been finished in both of his UFC outings, being knocked out by veteran Jim Miller in October of 2021 and choked out by fan-favorite finisher Terrance McKinney last August.

Peek is making his promotional debut against Gonzalez. He won a UFC contract with a second-round finish of Malik Lewis on Dana White's Contender Series last September. In a trend that may not bode well for Gonzalez, none of Peek's fights have gone the distance.

The Alabama native is not prone to layoffs, having fought four times in 2022 and three times in 2021. He's been on the sidelines since his contract-winning performance and Feb. 25 is his first scheduled fight of the (relatively) new year.

The three-round bout is part of a UFC Apex card headlined by a crucial light heavyweight clash between Nikita Krylov and Ryan Spann.
