Alabama Coaching Staff Selects Seven Players of the Week Following Win over No. 16 Mississippi State
The Alabama football coaching staff selected seven players of the week following the Crimson Tide’s 24-0 shutout win over No. 16 Mississippi State at Bryant-Denny Stadium last Saturday. Josh Jacobs on offense; Isaiah Buggs, Raekwon Davis and Quinnen Williams on defense; and Ale Kaho, D.J. Lewis and Kyriq McDonald on special teams were recognized for their play against State.
Jacobs led all Tide rushers with 97 yards on a career-high 20 carries and added one rushing score. The junior also recorded two receptions for 12 yards and contributed another touchdown through the air to total 109 all-purpose yards on the day.
The defensive line trio of Buggs, Davis and Williams were dominant once again, playing a key role in the Crimson Tide’s second shutout in as many weeks. The threesome combined for 16 tackles, including five of the Tide’s 10 for a loss. Williams, a redshirt sophomore, tied for the team lead in tackles with six, adding two for loss (-9 yards) and one sack (-5 yards). Buggs tied for second on the team in tackles with five, with the senior contributing a pair for loss (-3 yards) and a sack (-1 yard) to push his team-leading sack total to 9.5. Davis, a junior, matched Buggs with five tackles, recording one for loss (-4 yards), as the Alabama defensive unit limited State to only 169 yards of total offense.
Kaho continued his steady play on special teams, notching his first career fumble recovery on a Tide punt to set up UA’s third touchdown of the afternoon. Lewis and McDonald each played a key role on coverage units to help keep the Bulldog returners to only one kickoff and a single punt return, with Lewis contributing one tackle on kickoff coverage
