Alabama Football’s Quinnen Williams, Jonah Williams Selected as SEC Players of the Week
Alabama football had two players selected as Southeastern Conference Players of the Week following the Crimson Tide’s 29-0, shutout performance against LSU last Saturday, the league office announced on Monday. Redshirt sophomore Quinnen Williams was chosen as the league’s Defensive Player of the Week while Jonah Williams was tabbed the SEC Co-Offensive Lineman of the Week.
Quinnen Williams had a career night in Baton Rouge, leading Alabama with a career-high 10 tackles, including a career-best 3.5 tackles for loss (- 19 yards). He added a career-high tying 2.5 sacks for loss (-18 yards) as the Tide defense limited LSU to 196 yards of total offense, including just 12 yards rushing on 25 carries in the shutout.
The offensive line unit put together a dominant performance, led by Jonah Williams. The Tide’s left tackle recorded six knockdown blocks for a second straight game and the third time this season as Alabama averaged 7.6 yards per carry on the ground. Williams’ effort helped the Tide collect 576 yards of total offense, including 281 rushing – the most UA has recorded against the Tigers since 2002. He did not allow a sack or pressure and did not commit a penalty, improving his season total to 535 plays without a sack allowed.
