Alabama Football’s Tua Tagovailoa Selected SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week
Alabama football’s Tua Tagovailoa was named as one of the Southeastern Conference’s Co-Offensive Players of the Week for his play against Auburn in the Crimson Tide’s 52-21 win last Saturday, the league announced on Monday morning.
In his first Iron Bowl start, Tagovailoa accounted for 350 yards of total offense against the Tigers’ No. 10 nationally-ranked defense. The sophomore quarterback recorded a single-game school-record six touchdowns, tying the Alabama all-time mark for passing scores with five while adding one more touchdown on the ground. He completed 25-of-32 passes for 324 yards and added 26 yards rushing on four carries.
Tagovailoa averaged 10.1 yards per attempt with an impressive 13.0 yards per completion. He completed six passes of 20 yards or more on his way to his school-record fifth 300-yard passing performance this season. The six-touchdown effort against Auburn helped Tagovailoa to become the Alabama single-season leader for touchdown responsibility with 41, including 36 passing and five rushing.
The league honor is Tagovailoa’s third of the season. He also earned SEC Offensive Player of the Week accolades following his outings against Tennessee (Oct. 20) and Texas A&M (Sept. 22).
