Alabama Releases 2015 Depth Chart Ahead of Season Opener
It has become a bit of a tradition in its own right.
Every year, on the Monday of the team's season opener, Alabama releases a two-deep depth chart, listing the projected starters and backups at each position heading into start the season.
On this Monday, before the Crimson Tide takes the field against No. 20 Wisconsin in Arlington, Texas on Saturday, it was no different.
Still, every position isn't always finalized at this point with a few positions, namely quarterback, still in the middle of a competition. For those positions, an "OR" or a slash mark leaves some room for interpretation up until the team actually takes the field for the first time each season.
At quarterback, coach Nick Saban has apparently narrowed down the starting job to Jake Coker, Cooper Bateman and Alec Morris, which he alluded to last Thursday. At this time last season, Blake Sims and Jake Coker were listed as co-starters at the position.
Offensive linemen Alphonse Taylor and Bradley Bozeman are still competing for the right guard job, though during the media viewing periods of practice, it appears Taylor has been the frontrunner of late. From left to right, the starting offensive line is sophomore Cam Robinson, redshirt freshman Ross Pierschbacher, senior Ryan Kelly, Taylor/Bozeman and senior Dominick Jackson.
Replacing Amari Cooper, DeAndrew White and Christion Jones at wide receiver are Robert Foster/Calvin Ridley, ArDarius Stewart and Richard Mullaney/Chris Black.
In the secondary, Cyrus Jones returns as a starter at one of the two cornerback spots, alongside new starter, Marlon Humphrey. Eddie Jackson and Geno Matias-Smith headline at the two safety positions, and true freshman Minkah Fitzpatrick will fill the Star (nickelback) position role.
