Alabama football will always be a contender for a national championship under Nick Saban's lead. It's just a fact at this point.

However, the Crimson Tide find themselves in danger of falling behind a fellow SEC foe for the second-straight season this fall.

After 2010 Auburn, 2019 LSU and several failed challengers to the Tide's conference-wide dominance, it looked as though Saban may ride off into the sunset without ever being dethroned as king.

However, Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs have what it takes to unseat Saban from his throne.

Smart led Georgia to its first national championship since 1980 last season and looks to be in prime position for a repeat this fall. The Bulldogs demolished a ranked Oregon team in Atlanta during Week 1 and have yet to look back since.

Georgia's talent and depth have the attention of the entire country, including a commentators.

Vegas currently lists the Bulldogs as the odds-on favorite to win the College Football Playoff, with DraftKings putting Georgia at +180 to repeat. Meanwhile, Alabama comes in right behind the Bulldogs at +210 on the book. After that, it's the Buckeyes of Ohio State at +280 before a sharp decline to Clemson's +1400 odds.

After slip ups by Notre Dame, Texas A&M and others early, it's shaping up to be a three-horse race between the Bulldogs, Tide and Buckeyes.

Parity is aplenty down the ladder, although things look rather stable at the top.

Let's check back in a couple weeks after Alabama plays at Arkansas, however.
