Alabama softball dropped the series rubber match to Arkansas Sunday afternoon at Bogle Park, 6-3.

Alabama (26-13, 7-8 SEC) fell behind first after Arkansas (33-9, 8-7 SEC) scored a pair of runs in the first inning and added another in the third. A solo home run from freshman Kaylee Tow in the fifth inning scored the Crimson Tide’s first run of the day to make it 3-1 but the Razorbacks added three insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth to extend its lead to five. Tow blasted her second home run of the day in the top of the seventh, a two-run shot, before a groundout ended the game with the final score at 6-3. Tow’s two home runs were part of a 3-for-4 day at the plate, giving her a team-leading 10 home runs to go along with 26 RBIs this season. Sophomore Gabby Callaway also posted a multi-hit effort, her 10th of the season, as the San Diego, Calif., native earned at least one hit in all three games this weekend.

Alabama left a pair stranded on base in the top of the first and Arkansas loaded the bases with three-straight singles to lead off the bottom half. After a strikeout, a fly ball to center field scored one on a sacrifice fly and an error on the play allowed another to cross to make it 2-0 with two out and a runner at third. A groundout ended the inning with the Razorbacks holding the early two-run advantage.

With two out in the bottom of the third, Kayla Green and Ashley Diaz hit back-to-back doubles, extending Arkansas’ lead to 3-0. In the top of the fifth, Tow went opposite field and blasted a solo home run to score the Tide’s first run of the day to make it 3-1.

With a runner on first and one out in the bottom of the sixth, an error on a sacrifice bunt attempt put two in scoring position for the Razorbacks. Hannah McEwen capitalized on the mistake with a single up the middle, scoring two to extend the lead to 5-1. Later in the inning with two out and runners at the corners, freshman Madison Preston entered in relief in the circle. The Arkansas batter swung at strike three but the ball got away on a wild pitch, allowing her to reach safely and a run to score to make it 6-1 before a groundout ended the inning. With two out and a runner on first in the top of the seventh, Tow blasted her second home run of the day to make it a three-run game but a chopper to first ended the game as Arkansas held on to win, 6-3, and take the weekend series.

Alabama returns to action on Wednesday, April 18, hosting Southern Miss for a 6 p.m. CT game live on the SEC Network.
