Alabama defeated Vanderbilt 77-62 in Memorial Gymnasium tonight. Alabama wins its third game in a row and improves its record to 11-7, 4-2 in conference play. Alabama improved its record at Memorial Gymnasium to 20-44 and has now won nine of its last 12 games. Alabama is now tied with Auburn, Florida and Tennessee for third place in the SEC.

Vanderbilt was without its leading scorer tonight, Aaron Nesmith, due to injury and was led in the scoring department by freshman forward Dylan Disu with 21 points.  An 18-2 run in the second half for the Crimson Tide separated the two squads and ultimately allowed Alabama to cruise to victory. Vanderbilt falls to 8-10, 0-5 in the SEC. The Commodores have now lost 23 straight conference games dating back to last season’s 0-18 effort.

Alabama led on the road from opening tip to the final whistle despite committing 25 turnovers to Vanderbilt’s 11. Alabama out-rebounded the Commodores 51-32 on the game and shot 46% from the floor to Vandy’s 31%. John Petty Jr. led the Crimson Tide with 23 points and 10 rebounds, Kira Lewis Jr. scored 16, Jaden Shackleford contributed 15 points and Herb Jones chipped in with 10 points before fouling out. Freshman forward Javian Davis left the game in the second half with an apparent leg injury and did not return.

Alabama will play Kansas State in Tuscaloosa in its next game on Saturday, January 25 at 5:00 p.m. in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge.
