Alabama Basketball seems to be getting a jump at the point guard position this season.

The team lost six players due to the portal, but thankfully, was able to retain key guys like Jahvon Quinerly and Canadian sensation Charles Bediako for next year.

Head coach, Nate Oats and staff were able to use the portal to their advantage, by getting St. Bonaventure forward, Dominick Welch. Welch's presence on the "Bonnies" was beneficial to the team as St. Bonaventure finished its season at 23-10 with the fourth-most victories in program history.

Alabama has also been able to obtain guard, Mark Sears from Ohio University to start the 2022-2023 season. Since Mark Sears is touted as one of the best players in the portal, Nate Oats made it clear what he and his staff intended to do.

“Our entire staff felt like Mark was one of the best overall guards available in the transfer portal, so we really went after him hard," said Oats, earlier in the year.

A college basketball sports newsletter "Fieldof68" has Sears as a top 10 transfer in the sport today. He came in at No. 9 on the list.

Mark Sears was Ohio's best player last season with 19.6 ppg, grabbing six rebounds and dishing out four assists a game.

It'll be interesting to see what comes from Sears's signing, but for now, Title-Town has every right to be happy heading into the season.
