Bama in the Big Leagues: David Robertson Returns to New York

As Major League Baseball approaches the annual trade deadline, the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees agreed to a trade involving one of Alabama’s top players of the Jim Wells Era.

Chicago White Sox closer David Robertson was sent to the New York Yankees along with slugger Todd Frazier and reliever Tommy Kahnle in exchange for reliever Tyler Clippard and three other players.

Robertson returns to the Yankees where he spent the first seven seasons of his MLB career. In 2014, the Tuscaloosa native succeeded Mariano Rivera as the team’s closer and recorded a career-high 39 saves.

In a little more than two seasons with the White Sox, Robertson 15-10 with 84 saves.

While Robertson readjusts to life in New York, Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Jimmy Nelson suffered his first loss since June 23 as the Pittsburgh Pirates took home a 4-2 win Thursday afternoon.
