Bama Track & Field Duo Earns SEC Honors of the Week
While the Crimson Tide is well into its indoor season the team is not only killing it on the track but is being recognized off the track as well.
For the weekend recap, the Tide traveled to Texas A&M for an away meet.
One of the highlights for the Tide was a well-known distance runner Eluid Kipsang, who was the only runner to post an SEC-best mark this past weekend. Kipsang was named the SEC Runner of the Week with an SEC-leading 3:56.70 to win the mile at the Charlie Thomas Invitational. He also took second in the 3,000m behind teammate Hillary Cheruiyot. As Kipsang showed a very impressive and promising season last year he will definitely be a runner to watch for the next upcoming meets.
Looking at the performances off the track and into the field events Isaac Odugbesan posted a conference-best mark this past weekend with a school record of 20.59m in the shot put to win the Charlie Thomas Invitational. In addition, Odugbesan was now put in a position to be first in the SEC, Odugbesan's mark ranks fourth nationally now. This season Odugbesan earned SEC Field Athlete of the Week from his amazing performance this past weekend.
The Crimson Tide will be traveling to Fayetteville, Arkansas for its next match-up. The team has been looking strong this season and getting ready to gear up for indoor SEC championships that are quickly approaching.
