Bessemer City Defeats Paul W. Bryant in a 44-Point Blow Out
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Friday night's game between Bessemer City and Paul W. Bryant started with a bang for Paul W. Bryant, as the very first play resulted in a safety, putting them up 2-0. After getting the ball back on the safety, they immediately fumbled, and the ball was back in Bessemers' hands. Bessemer's running game could not be denied, with great runs from the Freshman QB Brandon Gooden Jr and Sophomore running back Chenyis Willson-Fuller. Wilson-Fuller got it into the end zone for the first of many touchdowns for the Bessemer City Tigers.

The defense was on full display for Bessemer in this game, securing two interceptions in the first half, both by junior cornerback Davontea Burnett. Both of these interceptions led to quick touchdown runs by the junior running backs Lamarrion Gooden and Teldrin Turner. With multiple QB switches, next up was the senior Trystin Berry, who came in and did not disappoint. He quickly got the ball down the field with a few good passes and runs, ending the drive on his legs, making it into the endzone. Shortly after, he handed the ball off to Wilson-Fuller, making it into familiar territory for two. With this barrage of offense and defense, Bessemer ended the half with a big lead, 28-2.
These two teams went into halftime with very different goals. One team is trying to maintain the lead while the other is trying to mount a comeback.
Bessemer came back out of halftime with their foot on the gas, with Wilson-Fuller getting back into the end zone for his second touchdown of the game. The defense also kept its intensity, with the familiar face of Trystin Berry showing off his skills on both sides of the ball with an athletic snag for Bessemers' third interception. Right after Bessemer got lazy and through their first interception of the game, being picked off by senior corner Lokeldrick White. Unfortunately for Paul W. Bryant, they immediately get sacked for a safety, giving Bessemer the ball back. After getting the ball back, Turner found a hole in the defense and took it in for a 40-yard rushing touchdown. But Bessemer was not done with this dominant display of the run game, because after causing Paul W. Bryant to kick the ball, the young QB Gooden Jr took his team to the endzone with one last touchdown, celebrating with a backflip.
In the final minute, Paul W. Bryant showed some fight with their run game, making it all the way to the red zone. Ending the game with a jet sweep to the sophomore receiver running it in with the 5-yard touchdown.
Unfortunately, it was too little too late with the final score, Bessemer-52 (5-1), Paul W. Bryant- 8 (0-6).
