During his tenure as an assistant coach for Wimp Sanderson and later Alabama’s head coach during the 1990s, David Hobbs helped play a role in developing future NBA stars like Robert Horry, Latrell Sprewell and Antonio McDyess

In addition to nurturing future NBA stars, Hobbs gave current Iowa State basketball coach Steve Prohm his first glimpse of the coaching life as a student manager at Alabama.

Earlier this week, Prohm added Hobbs as a special assistant to the Iowa State coaching staff.

During Friday’s Inside the Locker Room, the former Alabama head coach talked about reuniting with his former student manager and provided an overview of the current state of SEC basketball.

Hobbs detailed the reasons that led to his hiring by Prohm.

“Steve (Prohm), who was a manager for me at Alabama years ago back in the early ‘90s, reached out and asked would I be interested in getting back into college basketball. He was looking for somebody with experience that had been a head coach before just to kind of help him navigate some of the waters that you have to navigate.” Hobbs said.
