Sims is a Crimson Tide legend, known for his stellar 2014 season as the starting quarterback. He led the Tide to a College Football Playoff appearance and an SEC Championship as the starting quarterback. Offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin utilized his skill-set schematically and Sims responded with 3,487 yards passing and 350 yards rushing with 28 touchdown passes and seven more scores on the ground.

He went undrafted in the 2015 NFL Draft and thus opted to play professional football in Canada. After a short stint up north, he spent the 2016 summer playing football in Australia and then was signed and waived on two NFL practice squads the following fall.

Sims ended up being assigned to the Birmingham Iron for the AAF's single spring season of 2019 but was released by the Iron after and injury. In 2022 he decided to play in the Indoor Football League for the Frisco Fighters.

Sims will now coach Mt. Bethel Christian Academy in Marietta Ga. to start the new phase of life and begin a new career.
