Hillcrest On Top For Homecoming
Hillcrest High School geared up to play Hueytown tonight for their homecoming. Hillcrest has had some success and some failures in their season so far with a 2-3 record heading into the 6th game of the season.
Game Overview
Hillcrest starts on a good note, scoring the first touchdown of the game against Hueytown making it 7-0 with ease, after a long first-quarter battle of no more scoring from either team the first quarter comes to a close with a sack from AJ Love. Making it 2nd & 12 for Hueytown going into the second quarter.
The Gophers make a push for the end zone with a run in the red zone. Finding the hole to walk it in for a touchdown to tie the game on an almost five-minute drive for Hueytown. The Gophers kick to the Patriots with 7:20 left in the second quarter.
Javion Lowe, running back for the Patriots took his first snap after three weeks of injury this season on what was a critical 1st down run midway through the second quarter.
4:54 left in the second quarter with Hillcrest pushing into Hueytown Territory, the Gophers defense sacks Bryson Kimbrough for a loss of six yards making it 2nd & 9. Kimbrough was able to find an open receiver next play for a first down. Now on the 20-yard line, four yards are picked up on the run. Threatening Hueytown with another touchdown, Bryson Kimbrough was able to take it into the endzone on a QB run putting the Patriots on the board once again to take the lead. The Point after Attempt was good from Hudson Hall making the score 14-7 with 2:39 left in the half. The Hillcrest defense shut down the Hueytown offensive drive with 1:02 left in the second quarter giving Hillcrest a chance to run out the time.
During the start of the second half, Bryson Kimbrough throws a perfect throw to Jordan Chambers-Smith for a catch downfield despite the hard pass interference by the DB.
After a 10-yard loss for Hillcrest, Kimbrough finds Christian Richey the sophomore running back for a five-yard pass that turned into a 25-yard touchdown run, making the score 21-7.
This Hillcrest team continues to prove too much for the Gophers as the defense held the Gophers once again forcing the ball back to the Patriots.
The Hillcrest Patriots, not a stranger to trick plays pulls off an incredible double pass; Bryson passes to Chambers-Smith on what seems to be a screenplay play and Jordan Chambers-Smith gets it back to Kimbrough for a 35-yard touchdown by the D1 commits quarterback. The score is now 28-7 after the extra point was good.
Hillcrest putting on a great performance for their homecoming game, just stunning the Hueytown Gophers so far. With three minutes left in the 3rd quarter, it’s looking to be a runaway game.
Hueytown was able to get it into the end zone nearing the end of the third quarter with an incredible pass to the slot receiver on the bubble screen for a 30-yard touchdown run. Making the score 28-13 after Hillcrest was able to get the block on extra point.
Early into the 3rd quarter Hillcrest was able to score once again on a three-yard run. The score is now 35-13 with Hillcrest in the lead by a wide margin.
Hillcrest goes on to win the game 48-13, a good shift in momentum given the back-to-back losses this team has suffered early on in region play.
