As spring practices have come to an end across college football, fans and media alike will be formulating their opinions and predictions about the upcoming season.

In the SEC, Alabama will begin their journey for a second consecutive national championship and their third in four seasons while Georgia looks for their second straight SEC championship under Kirby Smart.

To kick off the week on Inside the Locker Room, former Ole Miss, Troy and Florida State assistant coach and sports talk personality Max Howell sized up the SEC for 2018.

While the primary topic of conversation in Tuscaloosa has involved the quarterback situation with Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa, the former SEC assistant coach evaluated Georgia’s quarterback situation and compared it to the competition at Alabama.

“I was a little surprised at the young quarterback in Justin Fields. I think he’s going to give (Jake) Fromm, the existing quarterback, a run for the money.” Howell said. “I think they’re going to have the same situation develop there that Alabama’s got.”

Howell later broke down the running back situation with the Bulldogs and the challenges Kirby Smart including rebuilding his defense from 2017.

After detailing the SEC landscape with Wimp Sanderson, Howell stated who he thinks will appear in the College Football Playoff.

“I got Alabama and Georgia back in the playoff along with Ohio State and Clemson.” Howell said.
