The philanthropic competition between the two schools has been held since 1994 and was started by the University of Alabama Center for Student Leadership and the West Alabama Food Bank in order to combat food insecurity in the areas surrounding both campuses. To date, per the organization's webpage under the UA Division of Student Life, Alabama is 14-14 in the competition and lost last year despite breaking the school record for donations with 319,437 pounds of food.

Since the beginning of the competition, the rival academic institutions have collectively facilitated the donation of 7.6 million pounds of food.

Generally, donation bins can be found all over the city of Tuscaloosa, but the densest concentration of them is closer to and on the UA campus. Those interested in donating can find a complete list of donation receptacle locations here.
