The Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa Adopt-A-School Golf Tournament is happening Thursday at the Ol' Colony Golf Complex, according to a release from the West Alabama Chamber of Commerce.

The four-man scramble tournament has two flights, with the first beginning at 8 a.m. and the second starting at 1 p.m.

42 teams will be participating this year and prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place to teams with the lowest net and gross stores.

Cash prizes will be awarded to participating schools for several categories, including winning team, elementary school with the most representatives, secondary school with the most representatives and through random drawings.

According to the release, Ramsey Environmental will sponsor a putting contest throughout the day. The "Longest Drive" winner will receive a recliner, compliments of Spiller Furniture, and the "Closest to the Pin" challenge winner will receive a $1,000 gift card to Your Golf Superstore, compliments of Wilson Machine and Welding, Inc.

The Adopt-A-School Program is in its 38th year, where more than 100 local companies and community organizations partner with 57 public schools in Tuscaloosa City and County School Districts, along with schools in Hale, Greene, Marengo and Pickens Counties.

The partners provide much-needed financial resources to their respective schools as well as offer a significant investment of personnel to participate in various classroom programs.
