Richard Williams Previews Bama Basketball vs. Miss. State

Following their 73-68 loss to Baylor in the SEC/Big XII Challenge, the Alabama Crimson Tide returns to conference play Tuesday night against Mississippi State.

The Bulldogs made 13 three point baskets in a 92-84 win at home over Auburn. Quinndary Weatherspoon led all scorers with 27 points Saturday night.

The two teams go into Tuesday night's game tied for sixth in the SEC with 3-3 records in the conference.

Prior to Tuesday's battle inside Coleman Coliseum, former Mississippi State head coach Richard Williams offered his thoughts on the game during his visit on Inside the Locker Room including the style of offense you should expect from the Bulldogs.

"Mississippi State doesn't throw the ball to the post a lot. It's more of a perimeter oriented offense. They shoot a lot of three point shots." Williams said.

While the Bulldogs are second in the SEC at 37.6 percent behind the arc, the former Mississippi State head coach sees the team's reliance on the perimeter shot as a potential liability away from home.

"Their game depends on three point shots. The thing that concerns me about that. Can you take that on the road with you? Shooting three point shots at home in front of your home crowd and at your own goal that you practice on everyday, that's one thing, but doing that on the road, that's another thing." Williams said.

In addition to perimeter shooting, Williams points to the ability of the guard to attack the basket as a key for Mississippi State to score close to the basket.

"The Bulldogs will score a lot of points in the paint, but it's because all three of their perimeter players are such good drivers. They can turn the corner and get to the rim and finish at the rim." Williams said.

Later in his conversation with Wimp and Barry Sanderson, Williams talked about the improvement of Lamar Peters as a complete player on offense, how the Bulldogs matchup with Alabama defensively and how head coach Ben Howland has adjusted to live in Starkville, Mississippi.
