Security Enhancements to be Tested at UA Football Game Nov. 18
In a proactive effort to evaluate improved security procedures, The University of Alabama will test the use of metal detectors at the Nov. 18 football game at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The game versus Mercer begins at 11 a.m.
The trial will include walk-through metal detectors and wands at selected gates around the stadium, and will be used to enforce existing rules for prohibited items, which include weapons, umbrellas, artificial noisemakers, flags/banners, strollers, computers and more.
Measures will be in place to ensure the continued smooth flow at gate access. Guests will be asked to remove any metal objects from pockets or clothing before going through the detectors. Those with prohibited items will have to dispose of them or return those items to their cars before entering the stadium.
Metal detectors are now mandatory at NFL and MLB stadiums, and are in use at several other college stadiums around the country.
