Should Nick Saban Bring Back DeMeco Ryans?

Is it time for Nick Saban to replace Pete Golding with a new defensive coordinator?

Alabama's defense this season has not been nearly as dominant as the group has always been known to be, so it might be time to make a coaching change.

Ryans is currently the defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers. This is his sixth season with the team and second as its defensive coordinator. He spent his first three years with the team as its linebackers coach.

In his first season as defensive coordinator, he had the Niners defense ranked third in the NFL in 2021, allowing just 310 total yards per game. His defense also forced the most fumbles with 22, and ranked No. 4 in the league in sacks.

Ryans was an outside linebacker with the Crimson Tide from 2002-05 and also played with the Texans and Eagles in the NFL before being eventually being hired by the 49ers for his first coaching job.

He was a great player and a good ambassador for Alabama and he has really established himself as a proven defensive coordinator at the top level in football.
