This weeks Crimson Tide Classic “The Drive”
Are you missing Alabama football? Stuck in quarantine and bored of the same old shows and programs? Relive some of the biggest games in the Nick Saban era with Eli Gold and Tide 100.9.
Each week for the next 10 weeks, Tide 100.9 FM in partnership with Learfield IMG College will air classic Alabama games during the Saban era. The games will be aired on Saturdays and Sundays on Tide 100.9 FM, our web browser and the TIDE APP. The games will air at noon with the next one being tomorrow, April 10.
The Tide sported an awful 2-7 record at Jordan-Hare Stadium heading into the 2009 matchup. The undefeated Crimson Tide took its national title hopes into Auburn and in the blink of an eye found itself down 14-0 after one quarter.
The eventual Heisman trophy winning running back only rushed for 30 yards on 16 carries for a whopping 1.9 yards per carry. The Crimson Tide needed its junior quarterback to mount a comeback.
Greg McElroy found senior tight end Colin Peek for a 33-yard score to tie the game as the half wound down. Auburn went on to retake the lead in the second half, putting the Tide's championships hopes in the balance.
Alabama sophomore receiver Julio Jones then had 58 of his 83 receiving yards and McElroy finished the game with seven consecutive completions including a a 4-yard touchdown pass to senior running back Roy Upchurch. The reception would be Upchurch's only touchdown catch of his Alabama career.
Alabama held on to win 26-21 for its third win ever on The Plains to advance to the SEC championship game and keep its undefeated season alive. McElroy finished the game 21/31 for 218 yards and two touchdowns.
Tune in this weekend to hear Eli Gold's epic call of "The Drive". The game will air on Tide 100.9 FM at noon both on Saturday and Sunday April 11 and 12.
