The 2023 recruiting cycle is in full swing and one of the top players in the class has set a date to announce his commitment. 5-star defensive lineman Peter Woods tells Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports that he will make his college announcement on Friday, July 8.

Woods plays for Alabama 7A powerhouse Thompson High School and has been part of Coach Mark Freeman's three state championships in a row. Woods is considered the No. 3 defensive lineman and the No. 23 overall player in the 2023 class according to 247Sports.

The 6-foot-4, 265 pound defensive lineman narrowed down his options to a top four in April. He will be choosing between Alabama, Florida, Clemson and Jackson State.

The Tide is looking to lock down the state and already has the commitment from 5-star corner Jahlil Hurley. Woods is one of five 5-star prospects in the state of Alabama and one of two 5-stars playing for Thompson along with cornerback Tony Mitchell.

Woods has taken an official visit to Clemson and Florida over the last two weeks, but he reportedly is close friends with former Thompson defensive lineman and current Alabama player Jeremiah Alexander making the Crimson Tide a strong candidate to earn his commitment.

Thompson is looking for a fourth consecutive 7A state championship and Woods will be a key factor for the Warriors success, as a junior he tallied 92 tackles with 26 for a loss along with 11 sacks, one interception, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and one defensive touchdown.
