This morning when I was flipping through the Los Angeles Times website (yes, I occasionally peruse through papers in other cities via the web) I am pretty sure I came across one of the most ridiculous stories I think I have ever found.

A petition was started to get the Jacksonville Jaguars to sign Tim Tebow.

However, here is the thing-this wasn't some cute petition started up in the Jacksonville area by a group of fans at the mall so they can march on down to the stadium with X amount of signatures and demand ownership sign the former Florida Gator star.

No, this was an official petition on the White House’s website that wanted President Barrack Obama to get involved, asking the leader of the free world to "Call NFL Jacksonville Jaguars GM David Caldwell and tell him to stop ignoring the Jaguars fans and sign Tim Tebow!"

I wish I were joking.

Unfortunately the former Gators star will not be receiving any help from his friends in Washington as the petition has since been removed from the “We the People” website as a violation of the moderation policy.  Apparently the White House sees this as a slippery slope.

There have never been any questions about Tebow’s popularity, but there have been plenty of questions about his abilities as a quarterback. When you combine the two variables, the distraction of Tebow isn't worth it if he’s not providing any production to your roster.

It seems as if the NFL is moving away from Tim Tebow as team after team has announced their intentions to stay away from the former Heisman Trophy winner. Now, as the White House has announced their intentions to stay away as well, the end of the Tebow era may be nearing.
