Trial Delayed for Former Auburn Basketball Player

A federal judge has delayed the point-shaving trial of former Auburn University basketball player Varez Ward, which was scheduled to start on Monday.

Court records show that U.S. District Judge Keith Watkins ordered the trial postponed from Monday to Feb. 10 while Ward seeks admission to the pre-trial diversion program. If he gets into the program, the trial will be canceled. A status conference is set for Jan. 9 in Montgomery to see how the process is going.

Ward was arrested in June on bribery and conspiracy charges, accusing him of trying to fix a January 2012 game against Arkansas. He pleaded not guilty.

Ward was suspended before a February 2012 game against Arkansas and never played for Auburn again.
