ALABASTER – Tuscaloosa County’s final road game of the season didn’t the way it would have liked.

The Wildcats were shutout for the second time this season, losing 27-0 to Thompson on Friday night.

The Warriors, 0-10 last season, were sparked by touchdown runs of 58 and 86 yards from senior quarterback Walker Lott. He also found receiver Jordan Haywood for a 40-yard score in the fourth quarter.

Nick Mobley’s 93-yard interception return was the game’s other score.

Thompson (4-4, 2-4) led 7-0 at the half, following the shorter of Lott’s two scoring runs in the first quarter. The senior, who had several designed runs in the game, weaved from one side of the field to the other in the open field before reaching the end zone.

For Thompson, Lott’s long run gave them their first points against Tuscaloosa County in at least 53:18 of game time. In two previous meetings against the Wildcats, the Warriors had been shutout 10-0 (2014) and 34-0 (2007). (They beat County High, 45-20, in 2006.)

Lott carried the ball 18 times for a game-high 232 yards, in addition to his two touchdowns. He also threw for 106 yards, though he did lose a fumble on a botched snap and throw an interception.

Senior defensive lineman and punter Collin Sherrill recovered the fumble inside Wildcats’ territory on Thompson’s first offensive series; sophomore linebacker Jacquez Jones recorded the interception.

Jones’ pick, which he made after batting the ball up into the air near the line of scrimmage, put Tuscaloosa County on the Thompson 30 with 1:51 left in the third quarter, trailing 14-0. The Wildcats reached as close as the Warriors’ 13 before Mobley scored his defensive touchdown.

Spain Park also held Tuscaloosa County scoreless this season, beating the Wildcats, 24-0, on Sept. 11 in Hoover.

In the video above, County High play-by-play announcer Mick Gillispie and Justin Baker, who was working as a sideline reporter Friday night, provide their postgame thoughts.

The Wildcats (0-8, 0-6 Class 7A, Region 3) host Vestavia Hills (6-2, 4-2) in Northport next Friday night.
