A peaceful protest has been planned for racial justice in Tuscaloosa this evening. The protest is planned to begin at 5 p.m. tonight (Sunday, May 31st) outside the Federal Courthouse in downtown Tuscaloosa.

The event's official Facebook page describes plans for the protest in further detail:

This is a peaceful demonstration in solidarity with protestors across the country speaking out about racial injustices in the United States.

We will meet on the sidewalk in front of the Tuscaloosa Federal Courthouse at 5 pm, at which point Pastor Hollis J. Thomas will lead us in a prayer and say some words. We will then march around the courthouse and stop for a moment of silence when we return to the front. Protestors are welcome to continue to march around the courthouse. A few notes:

*PLEASE WEAR A MASK & PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING
*The constitution gives citizens the right to peaceful assembly without a permit as long as they remain on public sidewalks, obey traffic signals and do not block traffic.

21st Avenue on the west side of the courthouse will be closed as well as 20th Avenue along the east side of the courthouse. The event is anticipated to conclude at 6:30 p.m.
