Two Crimson Tide Players Listed on Preseason Award List
Two Alabama Crimson Tide starters have found themselves listed on an exclusive preseason award list. Henry To'oto'o and Cameron Latu have been added to the preseason watch list for the 2022 Polynesian College Football Player of the Year since both are expected to have excellent seasons after their individual success last year.
To'oto'o transferred to Alabama last season and made an immediate impact as a starter for a top 10 defense in college football last season. The middle linebacker position has traditionally been a pivotal spot in Nick Saban's defense that has produced many NFL linebackers, and To'oto'o seems to be next in the line of success heading into his senior season.
Latu became a favorite target of Bryce Young last season catching eight touchdowns and tallying 410 yards at a position where he had to compete for reps. While Latu's status is currently unknown to those outside of the team, his impact will undoubtedly be felt when the Tide steps onto the field this season.
Both players have the opportunity to join elite company as recipients of the award with the most notable of those receiving the award being former University of Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who received the award in both the 2018 and 2019 seasons. His younger brother Taulia Tagovailoa ,who transferred from Alabama to Maryland, is also listed on the watch list.
The five finalists for the award will be released on December 1, 2022, and the winner will be announced on December 15. The recipient of the award will be honored at the 2023 Polynesian Bowl on January 20, 2023.
