UA Men’s Wheelchair Basketball Team Seeking Ninth Championship
The University of Alabama Men's Wheelchair Basketball team will play in the 2021 Toyota Collegiate National Championship Saturday, March 13, at 4:45 PM.
The Tide beat the Auburn Tigers in the semi-finals, 76-50 on Friday, March 12, in Stran-Hardin Arena.
Sophomore Ignacio Ortega from Madrid, Spain was the leading scorer in the win, with 37 points and 10 boards. Graduate student Lindy Bridges was also impressive on the day, with 12 points.
In the championship game, the Crimson Tide will be taking on the Texas-Arlington Mavericks, who are coming off a win against Southwest Minnesota State University.
Despite a 7-5 record in the regular season, the Tide is impressive when it comes to tournament time. They will be competing for their third championship in the last three years.
Overall this would be the ninth championship for the team, dating back to 2009.
The Women's team won their seventh national championship earlier today, defeating UT-Arlington 67-53 in the second game of the best-of-three-game series. Finishing the year with only one loss and a 10-1 record.
Hopefully, the men's team can finish strong and give UA a clean sweep in wheelchair basketball.
At a time where a variety of sports are getting recognition, don't forget about UA Adapted Athletics and the level of dominance they've had on college sports
