West Alabama HS Football Scoreboard for AHSAA Playoffs Round Two

Four West Alabama high school teams have advanced to round 3 of the playoffs. Two did it in heart-stopping fashion and two others dominated their opponents. Here’s a look at area winners and those whose season closed Friday night:
Patton Turnipseed kicked a 51-yard field goal with three seconds left at Lexington to lift upstart first-year AHSAA member Tuscaloosa Academy to a 23-20 win. The Knights travel to play powerful Fyffe next week.
Pickens County trailed at Meek most of the game but scored twice in the final minute to pull off a 44-36 comeback win. Head Coach Michael Williams said he and his players never quit and that their “faith in God” wouldn’t let them As a result, the Tornadoes host Marion County next week.
Gordo stayed dominant with a 44-14 blowout at home against Lauderdale County. Quarterback Brax Garrison shined on offense and linebacker Max Stephenson led a swarming Green Wave defense. Gordo opens round three with a trip to Sylvania.
Two Tuscaloosa teams known as the Patriots saw their seasons end at home Friday. Hillcrest fell victim to sophomore Alabama commitment Ryan “Hollywood” Williams. Those in attendance were happy that the speedster is committed to Alabama. Saraland toppled Hillcrest 56-31. The Pats finished 11-1 in Jamie Mitchell’s second season and their future is very bright.
Faith Academy of Mobile beat Demopolis 36-15 to end the Tigers’ season.
In AISA football playoff action Lowndes Academy eliminated Southern Academy 35-0.
