Week seven was not the kind of weekend you would hope for if you are a big fan of watching upsets.

There was, however, one upset inside the top 25 along with a few close calls. If you missed anything, here is a quick recap:

  • The biggest upset of the week took place in Tennessee, where Memphis took down Ole Miss, 37-24.
  • Florida State had a slow first half but managed to pull away in the end and came away with a 41-21 victory over Louisville,
  • TCU had a scare of its own after trailing Iowa State at halftime. The Horned Frogs stepped up when it mattered most and defeated the Cyclones, 45-21.

It does not look like week eight will be much more exciting. We have reached the point in the season when many teams are on bye weeks in order to rest up for the home stretch.

It should be noted that these are the weekends you need to look out for because it would not be an upset if it was planned. If you are hoping to see a little chaos this week, you should probably start looking by watching these three games:

  • #25 Pittsburgh at Syracuse

    Line: Pittsburgh -7.0

Jim Harbaugh and Jim McElwain have gotten a lot of recognition in their first year at a new school, but Pat Narduzzi has also done a great job in his first season. Under Narduzzi's guidance, Pittsburgh has slowly started to gain steam, which makes them a prime target for an upset.

It comes as no surprise that Pittsburgh has one of the best defenses in the ACC. Narduzzi is a defensive mastermind, and he likely made that his first priority. The trouble for the Panthers is on offense where their numbers are relatively low in comparison to other teams in the conference. The injury to James Conner was a major blow, but they do have Tyler Boyd, who leads the ACC in receiving. Narduzzi will need to get creative with his offense in order to survive a tough road game.

Syracuse is not a team that you hear a lot about, so most would not expect them to pull of any kind of upset. However, they earned a great amount of respect when they gave LSU everything they could handle earlier in the year. Syracuse is not exceptionally talented on offense or defense. They will make this game interesting by using their powerful front seven-- led by Ron Thompson-- to slow down the Panther's run game. This team also has a track record of playing better at home.

An upset in this game would not shake up the playoff picture. You may not even hear about it if it happens. Despite the lack of hype, an upset is significant in this game because it could have a direct affect on the ACC Coastal.

  • #6 Clemson at Miami (FL)

    Line: Clemson -7.0

Clemson has established itself as a serious playoff contender. The downside to that being their opponents are going to perform at a very high level in effort to take them down. Nothing says "Upset Alert" like a conference game on the road.

Clemson has survived multiple close calls already this season, so the Tigers should come into this game on their toes. The offense is one of the best in the conference because of Deshaun Watson and Wayne Gallman, but they are also the reason why the Tigers have one of the worst turnover margins. Turnovers will cost you big time especially on the road. Clemson will survive this game if they are smart with the football.

Miami has not gotten off to a very hot start. In fact, the south Florida weather and Al Golden's seat are two things that are hot in Miami right now. There is hope, however, that the Hurricanes can knock off Clemson. It all starts with Brad Kaaya whose 1,795 passing yards leads the ACC. A solid performance from him would do wonders, but Miami's defense has to step up big as well. This seems possible seeing that they lead the country in turnover margin.

A win over Clemson would do wonders for a team that is still reminiscing on what they once were. The Tigers are on serious upset alert this week as Miami looks to make a big time splash.

  • Washington at #10 Stanford

    Line: N/A

Stanford could not have gotten off to a worse start to the 2015 season. It may come back to haunt them, but, for now, they are in cruise control. They do have Washington to worry about because the Huskies are coached by the man that practically invented the term "Upset Alert."

Stanford's fuse was ignited by Christian McCaffrey. McCaffrey has averaged over nine yards per carry and has scored five touchdowns in his last two games. Stanford's passing game was sluggsih, so McCaffrey's emergence was critical. Now we cannot help but wonder how the Cardinal will do if a team shuts down their ground game. Washington has the best defense in the PAC-12, so it is possible. Can this team continue their hot streak behind the arm of Kevin Hogan?

Washington knows it has an opportunity to immediately shut down a team that just vaulted into the top-10. The Huskies' defense is obviously ready to handle whatever is thrown at them. The offense, on the other hand, has some work to do if they plan on scoring points. They average just over 25 points per game and those numbers are not going to cut it unless the defense plays exceptionally well. However, history says that a Chris Peterson coached team will find a way to light up the scoreboard.

Washington is a much better team than their record shows. The Huskies have lost three games by a combined 15 points. This is potentially a trap game that could shake up the PAC-12 North. It is a late kickoff, but you may want to take the time to watch this one or at least put it on the DVR.
